Girls Camps for 2015
Avalon 1- June 29 – July 3
Avalon 2 – Aug 10-14

BaggataGirls™ Summer Camp (www.baggatagirlslacrosse.com), at Wilson Park in Wayne from June 29th through July 3rd. The camp is open to girls entering Grades 3-9. BaggataGirls™ Lacrosse teaches the skills of lacrosse using novel drills, concepts and language players can understand, relate to and retain – all in a high energy and supportive setting. The program is not tied to any club or school team. It is agnostic in that regard. The sole agenda is to teach girls the FUNdamentals, but with a Flair…
The program will feature the full gamut of station work to teach all the skills and will include a special emphasis on short-sided scrimmaging to help participants learn to be complete lacrosse players, not just positional players. This is not a cookie cutter curriculum. We stress traditional staples but will introduce certain groups to Canadian/Box lacrosse concepts and explore what is possible with the stick and a ball. BaggataGirls™ training transfers knowledge, maximizes touches and is designed to help players thrive in the style of play that has emerged in girls’ lacrosse. Our goal, in a condensed time frame, is to help the girls advance at an accelerated rate. Our hope is to instill or further develop confidence and a passion for the game.
The camp will be organized and led by Co-Directors Amy Orcutt, head coach at Conestoga High School, and Scott Growney, former Mesa Fresh / PennStar coach and co-founder of BaggataGirls™ Lacrosse. Register soon and see why experience is the best teacher — https://mytournamentregistration.com/baggatagirls/players.php. All are welcome to join the fun and enjoy the new wave (and new ways) in girls’ lacrosse training.
Girls Ages 4-8 (Grades Pre-K to 2nd Grade) are invited to participate in the KinderLax™ Summer Camp at Wilson Park; players do not need equipment, soft lacrosse sticks and spongy balls will be provided. Space is limited – see http://www.kinderlaxlacrosse.com/.

Katie Chrest Lacrosse Camp, The Agnes Irwin School, Bryn Mawr, PA, July 6-8, 8 a.m. -2 p.m., Ages 7 to 18, Each Camper Receives 18 hours of expert instruction by a staff exclusively comprised of current and former college and national team lacrosse players and coaches over the course of 3 days; Dry fit camp t-shirt; Reversible practice jersey; Autographed photo of Katie Chrest; Lunches provided by local restaurants (served in an indoor air conditioned facility); Opportunities to win prizes during daily competitions. This camp provides instruction for every position (attack, middies, defense and goalies). Goalies will have their own coaches. All coaches have college playing or coaching experience. It is for this reason we assign coaches to stations, not to age groups. This ensures campers will receive instruction from all of our talented coaches vs. just one. The concentration is on instruction rather than watching/officiating scrimmages: At multiple stations per hour, we teach fundamentals and mechanics and provide drills to take away from camp to perfect these skills on your own. This camp is beneficial for experienced players and beginners. Because the camp is properly staffed the coaching staff can give the attention players of all skill levels deserve. Less experienced players will benefit from the focus on fundamentals. Experienced players will benefit from learning how to perfect their fundamentals from college and pro players and coaches. Perfecting fundamentals is how good players become great players. High School Players: Most, if not all, of our camps have multiple college coaches who recruit at your club tournaments. Fab 40 player reaction from Philly Boys’ Showcase Camp (@NXT_Showcase) All-Stars

La Salle 2016 attackman Colin Cahill said it was exciting to take skills he learned over the first two days of the NXT Boys’ Showcase Camp and immediately employ them into Thursday night’s Fab 40 All-Star Game.

“This camp is different from most because there is also a teaching aspect aspect,” said Cahill. “There are a lot of great individual position sessions where you can pick (college) coaches brains.”

Fab 40 All-Stars Colin Cahill of La Salle (left) Dan Fisher (St. Joseph's Prep)

Fab 40 All-Stars Colin Cahill of La Salle (left) Dan Fisher (St. Joseph’s Prep)

Cahill scored two goals Thursday to help the Black team prevail, 7-4, in a well-played game despite constant rain.

“Coming into today’s game, I knew it would be a little sloppy because of the (rainy) weather and because we were playing with brand new kids,” said Cahill. “We wanted to work the ball around and get the easy shot – let the ball do the work, especially when we didn’t have good footing. We had to play a team-oriented game.”

One of the major features of the Showcase Camp was the box training done in partnership with US Box Lacrosse Association.

“I love the box training,” said Cahill. “It kind of forces you to make quick decisions. In box, everything is much smaller and have to see the open man and make plays in half the time of field. You work on stick protection and making quicker decisions. It really helps your game.”

Another key member of the Black Team All-Stars was 2017 face-off specialist Dan Fisher, who was a major reason St. Joseph’s Prep won the Catholic League title and reached the PIAA championship game this month.

“Coming in to the All-Star Game, I wanted to do as much as I could in front of the coaches,” said Fisher, who won more than 50 percent of his face-offs and was dominant during the day’s earlier tournament games. “At first, it was sloppy and there were a couple unhandled balls. But we started to get used to it (the weather) and it worked out nice.”

Fisher has enjoyed the training – especially the box work.

“The practice sessions are helping me so much,” he said. “I like camps that do that. I liked the midfield positional sessions because even though I am a face-off guy I still have work on passing and catching and running.

“In box, the interior skills are great and I used them today and they helped me a lot. In box, you don’t have all the world to run. Passing is short and working overhand is important.”

Fisher, who has received much D1 interest this year, said he has improved tremendously in the past year.

“The season was a big help,” he said. “Last summer is when I really started focusing on face-offs and the improvement I showed this season really helped me confidence-wise and confidence is everything on face-offs.”

Colton Johnson

Colton Johnson

Another up-and-coming player from Thursday’s All-Star Game was White Team 2017 midfielder Colton Johnson (Episcopal Academy, NXT).

“I expected play to be obviously better and I was happy to make the All-Star team,” said Johnson, who was a second-line middie on an Episcopal team that was in the national rankings much of the year. “Getting into this game was exciting and the pace was fast. The weather was a factor, but everyone played through it and it was a great game.”

Johnson said the box training has built on his previous experience.

“I love the box aspect,” he said. “I have been working on that with my club team,” he said. “It’s great; it gets your stick skills warmed and directly correlates to the field game. It helps you inside with stick skills in general.

“The camp’s learning aspect is great, especially working with position coaches. You work on skills you can do at your house and I am looking forward to other opportunities to work on my game

Johnson said he is just getting started in the recruiting process.

“I will see where it goes,” he said. “One thing I like here is that you get great pointers from the coaches and it’s a great experience.”

Hun School (N.J.) 2015 midfielder Robert Kuhn, from Moorestown High, will be playing Division I lacrosse at Johns Hopkins University.

Robert Kuhn ledger:

Robert Kuhn

Robert Kuhn

High School: Hun School (PG), Moorestown (2014) Graduation Year: 2015 Position: midfielder

College Choice: Johns Hopkins University

Club Affiliation: The Duke’s Lacrosse Club

Major lacrosse honors, All-Star teams, Camps, Showcases:

2015: All-Prep First Team, All-Mid-Atlantic Prep Team; 2014: NJ State All-Star Team, South Jersey All-Phillylacrosse.com South Jersey; 2012: Nike Blue Chip.
2015: Mid-Atlantic Prep champions, NJ State Prep Champions, Runner-up in Inter-Ac Challenge with The Hun School of Princeton (19-1 overall), ranked among Top 10 teams in every national poll;
2014: South Jersey Group 3 champion with Mooretown High School; 2011: NJ Group 3 State Champion.

Academic honors: Scholar-Athlete, Moorestown

What will you major in/study? Economics (major), Financial Economics (minor), Entrepreneurship and Management (minor)

Why did you choose the school? “The decision was easy. I chose Johns Hopkins for all the right reasons. The JHU reputation speaks for itself. The institutional tradition is amazing, the Homewood venue is unbelievable, coach (Dave) Pietramala, in my mind, is the best coach in the world, and it’s just by far a great academic school. JHU has everything you could possibly want in a school. ”

Highlights from the 2015 HS season? “I would start by saying that beating Lawrenceville (13-time defending Mid-Atlantic Prep champion) for first time in 17 years was great for The Hun School; and to be a part of a team that could break the mold twice and to win the Mid-Atlantic Prep championship was flat out great. Then, the whole ride through the Inter-Ac Challenge and getting to play Haverford in the championship at PPL Park was amazing. It was a great experience.”

Thank Yous: “The two men that have given me the greatest opportunity are Ebe Helm (The Dukes Lacrosse Club) and M.V. Whitlow (The Hun School of Princeton). First, Coach M.V. Whitlow is an extraordinary leader, thinker and coach; he works with each individual so well and absolutely has an unbelievable knowledge of the game. His motto is to ‘trust our training’ and we were able to do that and just go out and play lacrosse. Along with Coach Whitlow is Coach Jeff Snow (Hun offensive coordinator) who trained us so well; and Coach Akauola (Hun strength and conditioning coach) who whipped us into the best shape possible.

“As a player, the Dukes program was absolutely great all four years; it is unique because it’s so honest and that is refreshing. Dukes’ coaches tell you straight and honest and for me, personally, that’s the best way. Coach Ebe and Coach Christmas gave me the opportunity to achieve my best and they always presented things in a fair way. They helped me understand the game so much better and that helped me improve with each game.”

“Another big coach in my life is Christian Lauer, who has been my strength and conditioning coach since the start of my high school career. Like Coach Akauola, Christian is another great coach that has an extraordinary ability to take your athleticism to its top level. Hugh Davio said the Boys’ Philly Showcase Camp held last week at St. Joseph’s University provided his greatest learning experience.

“I’ve been to a few prospect camps, but this one really taught me more about the D1 lacrosse experience with the classroom sessions,” said Davio, a 2017 defenseman from Summit (OR). “I learned how there is no letting up with the pace of play here, which is something we focus on with my club team, Rhino, in order to compete with players out here.”

Hugh Davio, Summit, OR

Hugh Davio, Summit, OR

Davio was one of 116 players from around the United States that competed at the first of three Showcase Camps being run this summer by NXT’s Showcase Lacrosse. He was picked to compete in the Fab 40 All-Star Game Thursday in Day 2 of the three-day event.

The Philly Showcase Camps have many features, including box infusion from US Box Lacrosse, college-style practices, a recruiting seminar, speed training workouts, leadership sessions and exposure to the multiple facets and disciplines of a Division I student-athlete.

Click here for Fab 40 All-Star player reaction and the Fab 40 rosters.

The next camp will be held July 27-29 at St. Joe’s, for the classes of 2018 and 2019. Click here to register.

Davio also answered these questions about the camp.

How did you adjust tot he competition at the event?
Davio:
“Well, playing for Rhino and West Coast Starz really prepared me to play with this caliber of players, so I felt I was pretty prepared for this level of competition when I came out. I also really like the challenge of playing with the best competition, because I think it brings the best out of everyone, including myself.”

What did you learn from the box training?
Davio:
“I learned how important moving the ball fast and always keeping your head up can be when playing in such a confined place.

“The camp was really fun and a great experience. I liked how the coaches worked with us daily and were so giving with their time.”

What was it like to compete with and against a lot of East Coast players?
Davio:
“The athletes are really great out East, but I feel like the separation in skill level between East and West coast players is becoming less noticeable. The competition out East is very exceptional, though.”

Also from Fab 40 All-Stars:

Tristen Copeland, 2016 midfielder, Jay M. Robinson, NC, Team Carolina

Tristen Copeland,

Tristen Copeland, Jay M. Robinson, N.C.

What did you learn from the camp?
Copeland:
“During the camp I learned various ways to improve my stick skills and on/off ball movement. It was great to play with such high competition.”

How did you adjust to the competition (in All-Star Game, and rest of camp)?
Copeland:
“I just continued to played my game and to make sure I included my teammates around me. I had to pick up intensity for the all-star game due to more challenging competition.”

What did you learn from the box training?
Copeland:
“The box training showed me the importance of the two-man game in lacrosse and various ways to get open with the use of on/off ball screens.”

What was it like to compete with and against a lot of East Coast players?
Copeland:
“It was great to play with a lot of the East Coast players. I got to meet a lot of kids that I have recently played against in tournaments.”

Trammel Robinson, 2016 midfielder, Memphis University School, TN, No Excuse Lacrosse

Trammel Robinson, Memphis University School, TN

Trammel Robinson, Memphis University School, TN

What did you learn from the camp?
Robinson:
“I learned, on the offensive side of the ball when I’m setting my dodges up, to get as high as possible so I will be able to get a full running start at my defender. This makes it easier to run by him and get off a clean shot.”

How did you adjust to the competition (in All-Star Game, and rest of camp)?
Robinson:
“The All-Star Game is full of very good players who don’t make many mistakes so you have to be thoughtful with your plays and aggressive with your movements.”

What did you learn from the box training?
Robinson:
“The box session was one of my favorite parts of the camp. It forces every player to think and react quickly. I learned that keeping your stick in a ‘triple threat’ position is a must in box lacrosse because it allows you to be able to pass, shoot, or dodge.”

What was it like to compete with and against a lot of East Coast players?
Robinson:
“Most East Coast players have been playing for a long time and competing at a high level. Tennessee is filled with a lot of strong athletes that are looking to improve their skills. It is fun to be able to compete with the East Coast players who have a high lacrosse IQ.”

Participants at the groundbreaking goalie combine and recrutiting event on July 27-30 will be going home with HEX Dual Action Gear Wash and Power+ Laundry Detergent in addition to a limited edition custom charcoal print from The Art of Lax.

“I am excited to see great opportunities for lacrosse players to better their game through unique concepts like Guardian Sports,” said Drew Westervelt, founder and COO of HEX Performance Products. “HEX is extremely excited to get our products into the hands of participants and have them spread the word about our athlete centric product offerings.”

The Art of Lax
“As a goalie myself, I feel very honored and excited to partner up, and artistically contribute to a group that focuses on the art of goaltending,” said Vincent Ricasio the artists at The Art of Lax.

The Guardian National Championship is the largest lacrosse goalie specific showcase that brings together elite high school goalies from across the country and gives them the stage to showcase their talents in front of numerous Division I, II and III college coaches. The goalies are evaluated in 16 goalie-specific tests in four key component areas; REACTIONARY, OFFENSIVE, ATHLETIC and VIRTUAL.
HEX Performance

“We are very proud to partner with two companies who share our passion for lacrosse,” remarked Ginny Capicchioni, Guardian Sports, Founder/CEO. “Both companies have gone above and beyond to make our event memorable for both the goalies and their parents.”
