Team Brotherly Love claimed two team championships Sunday at the Fusion Lacrosse Winter Box Lacrosse Tournament at BucksMont in Hatfield.
Comprised of boys from Kennett Square, Garnet Valley, Unionville, Downingtown, Conestoga and surrounding areas, Team Brotherly Love brought three teams to compete. The Sunday Tournament consisted of three grade groups: 2024 (4th grade), 2023/2022 (5/6th grade), and a 2022 (6th grade). All three Brotherly Love Teams earned spots in the Finals.
The 2022 team, led by Garnet Valley HS’ Head Coach, Frank Urso and Assisted by Marc Driggs, won an extremely competitive 6th grade bracket championship, where any one of four teams could have taken the title. Team Brotherly Love was able to prevail against Tri-State (NJ), Fusion, (PA), Superstar (CT). In the finals, it earned an impressive win against a very good BBL (NJ) Team 8-4.
The 2024 team led by Head Coach, Wade Goldt, was able to win its bracket against some very good teams from three different states. It won a tough opening game against Roughriders (PA), followed by wins over Dukes LC (PA), Fusion (PA). In the finals, it faced off against Superstars, Connecticut’s premiere youth lacrosse club. Able to take advantage of a quick lead, it prevailed 15-2.
The 2023 team led by Head Coach, Jonathan Nurry and assisted by John Shillingford, faced tough teams from BBL (NJ), Fusion (PA) and Dukes LC (PA). In a mixed bracket of 5th/6th graders, itlost in the finals to eventual champion Dukes LC by a final score of 7-5. This was an extremely competitive game played well by both teams.
