Duke and Notre Dame have been selected as the preseason co-favorites in the 2018 ACC Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame short-stick midfielder Drew Schantz (Malvern Prep, Duke’s LC) was named to the All-ACC Preseason team.
Both the Blue Devils and the Fighting Irish received 17 points in balloting among the ACC’s five head coaches. North Carolina followed with 12 points and was selected third, while Syracuse (9) was picked fourth and Virginia (6) fifth.
The Preseason All-ACC Team features 13 student-athletes representing all five conference teams, with three selections each from Duke, Notre Dame and Virginia, and two from both North Carolina and Syracuse. Included on the Preseason All-ACC Team are six players who earned first-, second- or third-team honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-Americans for the 2017 season.
Duke leads the way in the USILA/Nike Preseason Coaches Poll at No. 2, followed by No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 9 North Carolina and No. 10 Syracuse. The Blue Devils are the top-ranked team in Inside Lacrosse’s Preseason Top 25, while Notre Dame is sixth, Syracuse is ninth, North Carolina is 10th and Virginia is 16th.
The 2018 men’s lacrosse season gets underway this weekend. The ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship will be played April 27and 29 at Virginia’s Klöckner Stadium. The semifinals are set for Friday, April 27, and the championship for Sunday, April 29.
