From Press Release
This past weekend, the final week of NXT Lacrosse Academy Session I wrapped up at Main Line Sports Center in Berwyn. Over the last four weekends the top players from PA & NJ have trained and competed with the hopes of taking their game to the NXT level this coming spring.
“This was our most well-attended session yet from both a participant and college coach perspective”, said Kate Henwood. We hosted 116 elite players and the following college coaches: Kerri Whitaker (UPenn), Allison LeBeau (Lehigh), Kerry Stoothhoff (JMU), Jenn Cook (Princeton), Margaret Corzel (Cornell), Kateri Linville (Delaware), Joe Tornetta (Delaware), Katie Herstch (Rutgers), Mike Molster (Towson) and Candace Taglianetti-Bossell (La Salle).
Each NLA series has four 120-minute training sessions featuring intense drills and advanced curriculum topics. The college coaches held live demonstrations and players worked through drills that required critical thinking and an elite skill set. Each week, we identify “workhorses of the week” so the coaches can give recognition to the players who demonstrate resilience, grit and coachability.
“The staff worked hard over the last four weeks to provide valuable feedback and to get these players out of their comfort zones,” said PT Ricci.
The group received instruction from ten different area coaches many of whom are current or former college coaches at University of Hartford, University of Richmond, Loyola University, Cabrini University, Ursinus College, Arcadia University, and Neumann University. Twelve different clubs and 20 different High Schools were represented throughout the four weeks of training. Through the four weeks the athletes were exposed to college level film study, as well as college style drills and teaching concepts. We also ran our first boys committed session which was a success. We felt a need in the market to bring committed players together to compete and learn what college individual sessions look and feel like. During Session II the players will focus on developing the off-ball game as well as adding to the position specific offensive, defensive and goalie skills.
The February NLA is set to get started this coming Saturday, Feb 3rd for the girls and Sunday, Feb 4th for the boys, both programs having very limited space available. Interested players should apply here by clicking on this link. Questions on the girls program can be directed to Kate Henwood (kate.henwood@nxtsports.com), questions on the boys program can be directed to PT Ricci (pt.ricci@nxtsports.com).
