From Press Release
Head coach Jim Rogalski of the Lafayette men’s lacrosse team announced seniors Eric Joseph, Kevin Lewis and Keegan Hickey as the team’s captains for the 2017 season on Tuesday morning.
“I am pleased to announce these three as our captains for our 2017 campaign,” Rogalski said. “Eric, Kevin and Keegan have proven their strong leadership qualities this fall and I am honored to have them as the highest representatives of our team.”
Joseph and Hickey played in all 14 games for the Maroon and White a year ago, while Lewis was a starter in nine of his 10 games played. Joseph and Lewis will be focal points on the attack this season, while Hickey will help patrol the midfield.
The Leopards’ leading scorer each of the last two seasons, Joseph has been a consistent offensive weapon for Rogalski’s squad throughout his time on College Hill. He registered 33 goals last season, including four games with four or more scores, increasing his production from a 26-goal season in 2015.
In the midfield, Hickey was asked to control a large portion of the field for Lafayette, picking up 14 ground balls and causing six turnovers in his junior season. The Flemington, N.J. native made two starts a season ago, registering a goal against Army and NJIT, respectively.
The final captain battled through injuries during his junior year, but was still able to finish second on the team in scoring with 19 goals to his credit. Lewis tallied a hat trick in four separate contests and put up a season-high six points against NJIT on three goals and three assists.
These are just three members of an outstanding senior class the men’s lacrosse team will bring to the field this spring. Declan McGuire, Dillon Confalone, Jason Sands, Gerard Mahoney, Cormac McCooe, Erik Cannon and Matt Cortese round out the group of veterans that Rogalski will count on to make this year’s team successful.
“This senior class is a special group,” Rogalski, beginning his fifth year at Lafayette, added. “These guys have been with me for four years and we have all grown together. I look forward to facing the challenges of this season side-by-side with these guys leading the program.”
Rogalski and his senior class are set to open their season on Feb. 11 when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Michigan with opening faceoff set for 4 p.m. Check in with GoLeopards.com later this month for a full season preview of this spring’s edition of Lafayette men’s lacrosse.
