Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse head coach Taylor Wray has announced the incoming Class of 2020, which features 14 freshmen, as well as a transfer addition for the 2017 season. With the departure of seven seniors, including three starters, from last year’s team, this incoming group comprised of six midfielders, four defensemen, three attackmen, and two goalkeepers will add to a Hawks squad that matched the program record for wins (12) and reached the Northeast Conference Championship title game for the second consecutive year last season.

New to Hawk Hill are freshmen Mike Adler (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Saint Thomas Aquinas), James Bohlinger (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), Josh Bosher (Kamloops, British Columbia/Westsyde Secondary), Jack Hannigan (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), Liam Hare (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford), Tate Hutchinson (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), Alex Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y./Salisbury School (Conn.)), Garrison Kedda (Vienna, Va./St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School), Tyler Makar (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), Nate Patterson (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), Tommy Poulos (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area), Jason Roland (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson), CJ Stowell (Arlington, Va./Paul VI Catholic), and Nicholas Vernacchio (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) alongside junior transfer Patrick O’Brien (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West/Army).
“We are thrilled to finally have this group of young men arrive on campus,” said Wray. “I believe they will represent our program the right way both on and off the field. We expect them to continue the mature, hard-working, and selfless culture we have established here on Hawk Hill.
“These guys have had tremendous success in their careers leading up to this point, and I know they are determined to help continue to improve the SJU program. I’m excited to see that determination in action during the fall semester.
“We are fortunate that as a spring sport we have the luxury of working with our new players for six months prior to the start of the season, and our coaches are looking forward to helping get this group ready for their first season of Division I lacrosse.”

A 2016 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American First Team and 2015 USA Today All-American First Team goalkeeper selection out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Adler went 52-3 as St. Thomas Aquinas’ starting goalkeeper over a three-year span and 41-1 during his junior and senior seasons combined, including an undefeated 20-0 senior season. Adler, who was twice named to the All-County and All-District First Teams, led St. Thomas Aquinas to the 2016 State Championship for the first state title in program history, earning Most Valuable Player honors for the championship game, and led the squad to a runner-up finish at the 2015 State Championship. A four-year varsity letterwinner and senior team captain for the Raiders, Adler was tabbed the 2016 St. Thomas Aquinas Player of the Year and 2014 Rookie of the Year and also earned 2014 Top 205 All-Star Goalkeeper accolades. Lacrosse runs in the family as Adler’s older brother, Max, is a Division II All-American senior face-off specialist at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Bohlinger is a 2016 All-State Third Team, All-State Group IV First Team, and Courier News All-Area First Team selection and 2015 All-State Group IV Second Team and All-Fitch-Pitt Division Team pick out of Westfield, New Jersey. The incoming attackman led Westfield to back-to-back Union County Championship titles and the 2014 Group IV State Championship title and recorded 82 goals and 84 assists over three-year career, including a team-best 84 points on a team-best 44 goals and team-best 40 assists as a senior co-captain. Bohlinger was selected to the Top 205 All-Star Game during his sophomore season. Lacrosse runs in the family as Bohlinger’s older brother, John, played Division III lacrosse at the University of Mary Washington.

As field lacrosse was not offered at Westsyde Secondary, Bosher played travel lacrosse for Elev8 Lacrosse in Calgary since 2011 and was a junior affiliate player for the 2013 Senior Team. The Kamloops, British Columbia native was a two-time BC’s Best Field Lacrosse Showcase All-Star, a 2015 All-Canada Lacrosse Showcase All-Star, and a 2014 Blue Chip 225 Lacrosse Showcase All-Star. He earned a silver medal at the 2015 New Westminster Intermediate A Box Lacrosse Provincial Championships and was an affiliate player for the 2014 New Westminster Intermediate A Box Team. The 2014 BCLA Interior Box Lacrosse Player of the Year also earned a trio of BC Summer Games All-Star First Team honors as well as 2010 BC Summer Games MVP honors and led the BC Box Lacrosse Team to a pair of silver medals at the National Championships. Bosher was a three-time team captain and leading scorer of the Kamloops Rattlers Box Lacrosse Team and went on to receive the Subway Box Lacrosse Scholarship. A three-sport athlete, Bosher earned letters in basketball and soccer at Westsyde Secondary. Lacrosse runs in the family as Bosher’s older brother, Jeremy, is a Division I junior attackman for the University of Denver and won the NCAA Championship with the Pioneers in 2015.

A 2016 All-County Honorable Mention and 2015 All-Division attackman out of East Islip, New York, Hannigan led East Islip in points all four years and in assists during his junior (31) and senior (27) seasons. Hannigan earned five varsity letters and captained the squad as a senior and was selected to the Rising Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Suffolk Teams. The incoming attackman played club lacrosse for the Long Island Outlaws. Hannigan also lettered in football at East Islip, where he earned multiple All-County and All-Long Island honors. Lacrosse runs in the family as Hannigan’s uncle, Vincent, played at both Duke University and Hofstra University.

Hare was tabbed the 2016 PAC-10 Player of the Year, 2016 All-Area Player of the Year, and 2015 PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Year while at Spring-Ford, where the two-time All-State and three-time All-Area First Team defenseman led the Rams to a four-year record of 72-15, including a 21-3 senior season. Hare was a four-year varsity letterwinner and senior team captain at Spring-Ford and played club lacrosse for Mesa Fresh Lacrosse Club. Lacrosse runs in the family as Hare’s older brother, Zach, is a sophomore midfielder for the Hawks and older brother, Ian, played Division I lacrosse at Towson University.

A 2016 All-Lancaster-Lebanon First Team selection, Hutchinson led Manheim Township to three consecutive Lancaster-Lebanon League Championship titles, two PIAA District 3 Championship titles, and four PIAA state appearances, including the 2016 semi-finals as a senior captain. The incoming defenseman recorded 83 ground balls and 78 caused turnovers as a senior and led the Blue Streaks to a four-year record of 87-14, reaching 20-win seasons every year. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania native also played for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club.

A 2016 All-League selection, Ives led the Salisbury School, ranked 19th in the nation, in scoring as a senior en route to an 11-4 record. The midfielder earned five varsity letters with the Crimson Knights.

Kedda led St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School to three VISAA D1 State Championship titles and the program’s first IAC Championship title and earned All-State Second Team honors as a senior. A four-year letterwinner for the Saints, Kedda guided his squad to a four-year record of 68-23, including a 21-4 record as a senior. The Vienna, Virginia native played for Team Virginia at the 2013 Brine National Lacrosse Classic and also lettered in soccer at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes.

A 2016 All-Section and All-League selection out of Yorktown Heights, New York, Makar recorded 107 ground balls and 96 caused turnovers over his three-year career at Yorktown, including single-season career-high numbers of 58 ground balls and 63 caused turnovers as a senior. A three-sport athlete, Makar also lettered in football and basketball for the Huskers.

O’Brien saw action in seven games with Army during the 2015-16 seasons, scoring a goal at Lafayette as a sophomore and recording an assist in his collegiate debut vs. VMI as a freshman. The incoming attackman out of Smithtown, New York earned four varsity letters at Smithtown West, where he was tabbed an All-County selection as a senior and an L.I.M.L.F. Frank McCall Unsug Hero Award recipient as a junior.

A 2016 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American and the 2016 LNP Player of the Year, Patterson was a four-time All-League and two-time All-District pick at Lampeter-Strasburg, where he scored a school-record 207 career goals, which ranks in Pennsylvania state’s all-time top-ten. The incoming midfielder out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania led the Pioneers in points and goals all four years en route to earning four MVP awards and leading the squad to a four-year record of 47-21, including a 16-4 senior season. Patterson was twice named to the Baltimore Summer Kick-Off All-Star Team, as well as the IL All-Tournament Team, Philly Showcase All-Star Team, and Delaware All-Star Team, on which he earned MVP honors. A two-sport athlete, Patterson also lettered in soccer at Lampeter-Strasburg, where he earned All-League Academic All-Star honors.

Poulos, was a three-time All-Lancaster Lebanon League All-Star selection at Elizabethtown Area, earning First Team honors as a sophomore. The incoming midfielder out of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania recorded 124 career goals – including 46 as a senior – and 51 career assists over his four-year career for the Bears.

A 2016 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American and three-time All-Berks County selection out of West Lawn, Pennsylvania, Roland captained Wilson to a 25-1 record en route to the 2016 District 3 title as a senior, as well as runner-up finishes at the District 3 level during both his freshman and sophomore seasons. The four-year starting goalkeeper back-stopped Wilson to a four-year record of 89-11 and four consecutive Berks County Championship titles. An Inside Lacrosse Uncommitted All-Star and Legacy Invitational All-Star, Roland played club lacrosse for Phillie Elite. A two-sport athlete for the Wilson Bulldogs, Roland was also a three-time All-Star selection in ice hockey.

Stowell led Paul VI Catholic in points (52), goals (40), and assists (12) as a senior this past spring en route to All-Region and All-Conference honors and the squad’s Offensive MVP Award. The incoming midfielder out of Arlington, Virginia, guided his squad to the 2015 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference final and Virginia state semi-final as a junior and turned in 80 career goals and 20 career assists over his four-year career at Paul VI Catholic.

A 2016 All-State selection and four-time All-Conference pick out of Dresher, Pennsylvania, Vernacchio led Upper Dublin to a 22-3 record as a senior. A two-sport athlete, the incoming midfielder earned four varsity letters in lacrosse and also lettered in basketball at Upper Dublin.
