From Press Release

Upper River Lax announces Skills Week, a great opportunity for those just discovering the sport or discovering they love the sport.

Upper River Lax is offering yet another opportunity for young lacrosse players on the Main Line. From July 13th – 17th at the Phelps School in Malvern, the experienced coaches at URLax will be running a camp for boys aged 10 to 16.Upper-River-lax

As with all Upper River Sports programs, Skills Week will boast a low coach-camper ratio and lots of practice time to ensure individualized attention for every athlete. This attention to detail is critical for new players, so that bad habits can be corrected early and good technique is committed to muscle memory from the start.

Camp will run from 9am to 4pm, with a break for lunch. Coach Brian Santoleri, who has worked with Harriton High School and Ashbee Lacrosse locally, had this to say: “I am very excited to join the Upper River staff with the goal of development of all aspects of the game of lacrosse. Upper River is on the rise as a cutting edge training program and focuses on individual performance. Our team is committed to preparing our athletes for the next level of competition.”

Upper River Sports takes a better approach to athletic growth. Coaches repeat the mantra of “process, not product. Years of experience and scientific stufy show that focusing on the process of getting better (instead of just the outcome of a game) creates a better environment for growth and enjoyment – while also leading to a better mastery of the sport.

For more information about camp and to find out how to register for Upper River Lax’s Skills Week, visit www.upperriverlax.com or e-mail info@upperriversports.com.

Summer recruiting camps

Philly Boys Showcase Camp by NXT at Saint Joseph’s University, Session II for 2018s and 2019 on July 27-29 at St. Joseph’s University. The Philly Boys Showcase Camp was started by coaches who genuinely want to help high school players achieve their college lacrosse goals by educating them on all aspects of the college process. Two coaches who embody this philosophy and the co-directors of the Boys Philly Showcase Camp – Peter Lawrence (University of Hartford), and Taylor Wray (St. Joseph’s University). Showcase lacrosse campers leave better educated not just on the lacrosse field, but also better educated about the college recruitment process, NCAA rules, strength training, and nutrition. Campers literally get to experience a couple days in the life of a college lacrosse player.Boys-summer-camps22

Lehigh Valley Showcase for boys in the classes of 2018 and 2019 at Lehigh University from July 22-24. This camp is designed to provide rising high school sophomores and freshmen from the Lehigh Valley and across the country with advanced skill development in a highly competitive, tournament style, playing environment. The showcase will provide a platform for players to display their skills in front of college coaches from Divisions I, II, and III, as these coaches will be invited to serve as instructors and also as recruiters. Off the field, players will take part in strength and speed training clinic (results will be given to take home at the end of camp), recruiting & academic seminar, and a leadership/character building seminar. The mission of the Lehigh Valley Showcase is to help prospective student athletes gain visibility within the recruiting landscape, while helping them grow as players and as people.

This weekend Wasatch will compete in the Tri-State National lacrosse festival in the Princeton (NJ) area.

Wasatch played last weekend in the Vail Lacrosse Shootout in the HS U-19 Division and reached the Division II final.

“We are tremendously excited to bring the team East for the third consecutive summer,” said Wasatch General Manager and coach Adam Eddinger, also an assistant coach at Chestnut Hill College. “Wasatch LC provides a team experience like no other club in the country.

“Year after year, we boast an unselfish roster of players from at least 10 or more high schools across the state of Utah. The exposure and experience these players gain in a week coming back east has proved to help their confidence, team play and on field performance the following spring for their HS teams.

“This year we will tour Philadelphia area colleges, scrimmage top local clubs (380 Lacrosse, Dukes LC & Black Bear), sample Philly’s best foods and head to TriState at the end of the week. I am very excited to pick the team up at the airport tonight and take them for Pat’s & Geno’s cheesesteaks!”

He was drafted and played for Major League Lacrosse’s Charlotte Hounds in 2012 and played two games for the New York Lizards in 2013 as a midfielder.

Vitale said he first fell for the Epoch shaft when his girlfriend used it while playing at Adelphi.

“I liked the grip of the women’s shaft when I first picked it up and then I used the Gen.5 and I fell in love with it,” said Vitale.

The Dragonfly Gen.5 shaft is one of many Epoch products on the cutting edge of design. Designed with a minimalistic cosmetic providing view directly to the carbon fiber, it is light, durable and flashy. Another hot product is the Otter Mesh™, said to be the world’s lightest weatherproof lacrosse mesh.

Vitale said it’s easy to sell these and other Epoch products. What does he tell young players about Epoch’s gear?

“There’s three things I tell them and first is the durability,” he said. “I am not worrying if my shaft dents or snaps on a ride. If you see a defender snap their shaft they have to leave the field for 15 or event 10 seconds and that leaves a team a man down.

“Durability is a huge factor as everything gets lighter and the metal sticks get more brittle while carbon fiber gets stronger.

“No 2 is the technology aspect. Other sports like hockey and cycling are using carbon fiber. The strength ratio for Epoch sticks is unreal. Kids say it’s light but it’s probably one of the strongest shafts.

“Being from Long Island, a lot of guys from the East Coast have been playing since they were in diapers. When you first say carbon fiber they say big deal but when I get the stick into their hands at a tournament their eyes open a little bit.

“No 3 is the flex. That’s also tied to technology. Any time you talk about adding miles to their shots, kids are excited. As you get older, it makes less of a difference but for the high school player you are really trying to generate that torque and the extra flex does wonders. It could add anywhere from a couple miles to who knows?

Vitale said the flex only occurs during the coil. The stick’s reload is made to come right back to its straight form. This occurs because the way Epoch layers its carbon fiver from different angles between 0 to 90.

Fleck has seen the impact of Epoch sticks, mesh and heads first hand with his high school and club players.

“With Epoch, how can you not be excited?” he said. “We are finding new ways to innovate and the change the game we all love by making it better than the way we found it.

“With our carbon fiber shaft, the Otter Mesh and our heads, I can tell you that as a club coach and a high school coach our guys all use their stuff – and we love it. The fun part is that we are not stopping here.”

Fleck said Epoch has very high goals for its products.

“We trying to find new ways to make products by investing in research and development,” he said. “We don’t want to be just another lacrosse company. We might be smaller and that gives us an advantage of being nimble and being able to invest in the right areas research and development. We are not trying to do what others are doing.”

What makes Epoch so progressive? Fleck said it’s because everyone n the company is directly involved in coaching or playing lacrosse – or both.

“It was interesting at the company meeting the other day,” said Fleck. “I looked across the room and every single person either coaches or plays or has played the game at some point – we are a lacrosse company run by lacrosse people whose only focus is on the game we love.”

UNIONDALE, N.Y – Eight different players scored as Team Long Island dethroned two-time champion Duke’s Lacrosse Club (PA), 8-4, to win the 2018 division title Sunday at the National 175 Best of the Best Team Showcase at Mitchel Complex.

“Our offense stepped up nicely and our defense came up big in the last game,” said Team Long Island midfielder Bobby Abshire (Commack), who had one goal “Our goalies were also great in cage.

“We played seven games over the past three days so we were basically playing non-stop lacrosse which helped us stay focused.”

Team Long Island used strong defense and stingy zone to thwart the Dukes attack.

“We basically just wanted to see how their shooters were at first,” said Abshire. “We started off in a zone to see who their really good players were and we just went from there.”

Duke’s L.C. coach Ebe Helm credited the Team Long Island goalies while also praising his team.

“We had a lot of shots we just didn’t capitalize,” he said. “Their two goalies played extremely well.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t three-peat, but we were shorthanded and the kids played their guts out to get us in the championship. We just came up a little short.”

Ethan Lamond (MF/ATT, La Salle) scored two goals for the Dukes while Chris Cara (Conestoga) and Michael DiGiacomo (St. Anne’s Belfield VA) each scored once.

Helm also cited the strong play of face-off specialist Mike Sisselberger (Southern Lehigh), defensemen Joey Burnham (La Salle), Hunter Jaronski (New Hope Solebury, 2019), Tanner Long (Germantown Academy), Logan Blondell (Soputhern Lehigh) and Jake Keller (Hun School), and goalie Liam Rosenthal (Central Bucks East, 2019).

Conestoga 2016 defenseman/LSM/face-off Sam Bouhdary has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Michigan.

Sam Bouhdary ledger:

Sam Bouhdary

Sam Bouhdary

High School: Conestoga High School (Proud attendee)

Graduation Year: 2016

Position: DEF/LSM/FO

College Choice: University of Michigan Men’s Lacrosse

Club Affiliation: NXT LC 2016

Major lacrosse honors, All-Star teams: 2014: Philly Showcase 2016 MVP; 2014: Baltimore Summer Kickoff all-star; 2014: Philly Showcase Camp Fab 40 All-Star; 2014: Maverik Showtime attendee; 2013: Philly Showcase Fab 40 All-Star; 2013: Legacy Lacrosse Invitational all-star

Academic honors, service projects: First Honors, NAHS (National Art Honors Society), Mudders Club President (Ceramics CLub @Conestoga)

What will you major in/study? “At the moment, it is kind of up in the air. As a student, I have a very broad range of interests, which include Math, Science, Ceramics, Painting/drawing/, writing, philosophy, and more. To me, it seemed like Architecture would be the best, but as a lacrosse player at a D1 program, it will be tough studying such a rigorous major. But going to a school like Michigan that offers over 260 majors will be best for me because I will have flexibility in my schedule.”

Why did you choose the school? “There is a plethora of reasons why this school fit me best. Freshman year after talking to my parents, friends, brothers, and coaches, I realized the most important things to me are location, academics, strength of program, and size. As far as location goes, I wanted a school that was further away than the typical East Coast lacrosse school. My brother attends the University of Colorado at Boulder, and it was the first college I really saw. After seeing such a beautiful campus and amazing lifestyle, it was kind of hard for me to consider small schools along the East Coast, unless we’re talking Florida because there is something to be said about perpetual warm weather! When it came to academics, I really wanted to go to a school that I probably couldn’t get into on my own. When the University of Michigan came along, essentially all the planets aligned. The school is absolutely astonishing in terms of academic offerings and alumni base. On top of that, Ann Arbor was a city that is free natured and beautiful, something I hadn’t seen in a campus since I moved my brother in at CU Boulder. Lastly, Big 10 lacrosse is some of the best lacrosse out there. And at a big school like Michigan, being a student-athlete is unique due to the school’s long history and legacy with sports.”

Highlights from 2015 HS season? “To be completely frank, there isn’t anything i’ll forget about my past season. I am so close with so many of my teammates that is crazy to think that a lot of them will be gone this year. This year, we overcame a multitude of adversities, and it seemed like every game we played came down to the last 10 seconds, and in some cases, the last .2 seconds (Upper Dublin game). I could sit here and tell you all about the feelings I experienced in all of our crazy games, but at the end of the day, our 2015 Conestoga Lacrosse season is something that only me, my teammates, coaches, and certain religious attendees will ever truly understand and remember. At this point, all I can really say is that I wouldn’t have wanted to go to battle with any other guys.”

Thank You: “I really owe all of this to my parents, brothers, coaches and friends. I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without the superb coaching from (Brett) Manney, (2016 assistant coach George) Castle, (2016 assistant coach Bill) Derrick, (NXT LC Director Marty) Kupp (rion), (NXT President & CEO Andy) Hayes, (NXT LC faceoff coach John) Bodnar and the rest of the NXT guys. I also have to give a huge shoutout to Coaches (former Conestoga coach and current Villanova coach Brian) Samson, (Conestoga coach Brody) Bush, (Craig) Gratton, Billy Davis, (Ryan) Sankey and (Steve) Long for molding me into the player I am today. I also have to thank my trainer at Topspeed, Nick Sita, who’s consistently teaching me how to be a great athlete. ‘None of this would have been able to be accomplished without the unconditional support and love from my parents. My older brother Alex, who’s a personal trainer, has helped me mature in the gym and my little brother Jake never fails to crack me up. All of my friends who have always been there for me and never stopped pushing me also helped me be the person I am today.”

Maplezone Sports Institute, the official sponsor for Phillylacrosse.com boys’ recruits, congratulates Sam Bouhdary. MSI is located on Conchester Highway (Rt. 322) in Garnet Valley, offering Offering private, group, and team training. Training programs are made for each individual skill set and player. Staff Report

NXTsports is proud to release the schedule for the Showcase Lacrosse Philly Summer Invitational, taking place Saturday and Sunday at both United Sports and Downingtown High School in Downingtown, PA. The Philly Summer Invitational has been sold out for months, and features 108 elite club lacrosse teams from states across the country.Summer Invite

The Summer Invitational is for teams featuring players in the high school graduating classes of 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The championship-style format will be capped with playoffs all held at United Sports on Sunday. All-Star Games for classes of 2016, 2017 and 2018-19 will be held Saturday night at United Sports.

Said Brett Manney, Director of NXTsports’ Showcase Lacrosse division, “The tournament is only in its third year and I think that (its success and popularity) is related to the dedication of the clubs coming and type of teams that continue to come back.

“We have a big waiting list of teams that want to get in. The field is diversified with really good clubs from across the country. Sometimes, it’s the only times colleges see kids play from not only the Mid-Atlantic teams, but the South, Midwest and West. This tournament has it all; whether they are looking at a 2016 or looking on whose going to be one of the top 2019s in the country. No matter what you are looking for, this tournament has it.”

The full game schedule for the Philly Summer Invitational is available at ShowcaseLacrosse.com. During the event you can follow @NXT_Showcase to receive live tweets of scores, and full live scores and standings will be available online at NXT’s new Showcase tournament center – NXTShowcaselive.com.

.@WasatchLC (UT) relishes chance to compete against three Philly club teams in third trip to East Coast

Cavin Huntsman admits that coming East to play lacrosse against three Philly club teams forced his Wasatch (UT) Lacrosse Club to adjust quickly.

Wasatch LC

Wasatch L.C. players (from left) Cavin Huntsman, Ben Adams, Gage Fisher, Noah Lund, Payton Carson, Ian Elson

“I was here last year,” said the 2016 defenseman from Waterford High in Utah. “The biggest thing is here it’s a lot quicker game. Back home each team has one or two kids that can really play. Here you have to play as a team; no one person stands out because everyone here is going places.”

Huntsman and Wasatch finished a three-day, three-game series of exhibitions tonight at Chestnut Hill College with a 5-2 win over Black Bear L.C. On Tuesday Wasatch defeated team 380, 8-7, and on Wednesday it fell to Duke’s L.C. Lite, 8-7.

The games will surely prepare Wasatch for the Tri-State Tournament this weekend in South Jersey where Wasatch finished second last year in its division.

The trip East for Wasatch was again organized by its General Manager/Coach Adam Eddinger, an assistant coach at Chestnut Hill College; as well as Wasatch co-coaches Danny and Ricky Larkin. Wednesday’s game vs. Dukes Lite is also available to watch online at accesslacrosse.com

“We really want to win the (Tri-State) tournament,” said Huntsman after the game vs. Duke’s Lite. “Last year we lost (in the final) by one goal so that was rough. We’re trying to get the mentality of making a name for ourselves. We just have to keep pushing.”

Other Wasatch player comments following the Duke’s Lite game:

Ian Elson, 2016 MF, Riverton: “You can’t throw as many fakes; they start catching on. They know how to play good team offense and they have high IQ. We need to work harder to play Division I, II, or III lacrosse.”

Payton Carson, 2016 DEF, Juan Diego: “What I like is they play so differently; you have to make adjustments and keep changing things to keep up. I think we’re doing pretty well; this is a brand new team with freshmen and sophomores all the way to seniors.”

Noah Lund, 2017 ATT, Brighton: “I learned you have to move the ball and you can’t stand. You have to move your feet at all times. And they check hard, that’s for sure.”

Gage Fisher, 2017 MF, Olympus: “The level of play is definitely a lot better than back West. You have to play a lot harder and watch your passes. We’re really trying to win the championship at Tri-State because we are trying to make a name for the West Coast.”

Ben Adams, 2017 DEF, Skyline: “Back home it’s a lot more physical, there’s less finesse. It’s a lot more like football. Here it’s a lot quicker, here you have to watch off ball a lot more. I was kind of nervous about college recruiting. But it’s given me an idea that I can hang with these kids.

Duke’s L.C. head coach Ebe Helm said the experience of playing Wasatch for the third straight year has helped develop a strong relationship that benefits both programs.

Black Bear and Wasatch

Black Bear and Wasatch L.C.

“The value for Dukes is the expansion of our program and to understand how to compete with a team from another state and another world,” said Helm, whose Duke’s Programs teams are preparing for the first Passport Alliance Liberty Bell Challenge this weekend. “Then there is the benefit of having those two worlds coming together for a wonderful game like tonight

“The only way they are going to get better is to keep challenging themselves and keep competing as they pass that long from year to year. It’s only going to bring that program up multi levels. We’ve seen it for three years and they get better and better.

“It’s exciting that a team in Utah expanding and a tea in Utah that has a relationship with the Dukes Lacrosse Programs. It’s almost like our relationship with the Passport Alliance – teams from Canada, North Carolina, Connecticut, from all over. I lump Utah into that expansion – that expansion of lacrosse is the beauty of brotherhood in the sport that makes it what it is.”
