Andrew McAdorey said his teammates on the North of the Border box lacrosse team are like a family.

“I’ve been playing with some of these guys for five or six years and in field even longer; I grew up with these guys and we’ve got a lot of chemistry,” said McAdorey after his team blanked fellow Long Island power L.I. Express, 8-0, today in the 7th-8th Grade final at the Northeast Regionals (Hosted by Fusion Lacrosse) at BucksMont in Hatfield.

McAdorey, Jack Stewart and Noah Taylor each had two goals while goalie Liam Wright earned a rare shutout as North of the Border dominated from the start. NOTB finished 6-0 overall in the 2-day tourney and outscored its foes, 65-8.

“Our coaches did a great job making adjustments when things didn’t work out,” said McAdorey, who is an 8th grader at Laurel Hill. “We moved the ball very well; not one person had the ball on their stuck. And we played with a ton of heart.

“Our goalie played outstanding and our defense packed them in and made them take shots from the outside. We have played them before and they have a very good team; I never thought it would turn out like that.”

Xavier Arline and Aidan Kaminske also scored while Mark Regan, Ethan Insinda and Jack Schirtzer played key roles in the title. NOTB and the Express advance to the Nationals in August in San Jose, Calif.

“We’ve been playing forever with each other and the chemistry between the team in impeccable,” said Stewart, an 8th grader at Knox School. “It’s ridiculous; everybody has each other’s backs and all the work we put in this year really paid off.”

Stewart said he expected to play the Express in the final and he expected to win.

“Without a doubt,” he said. “That’s our rival and we took it to them.”

Why does Stewart like box lacrosse and how does it help his field game?

“I like the close corners,” he said. “I get used to people being all over my hands and being able to release the ball any way.”
