Black Bear has always been a club focused on giving it’s players the best quality coaching, instruction, and leadership it can find to give its players the best opportunities to grow, develop, and mature into young men with strong character. When former Minnesota Swarm and Limestone College All-American Justin Hawarth sent in his resume and a brief intro it were intrigued to get to know him more.

After a long meeting sharing coaching philosophies the club knew he was the man for the job. “We connected on philosophy right away,” says Black Bear Co-Director Bryan Churchey, “Justin was completely upfront with who he is, what he brings, and how he can be an asset to helping our players reach the next level both on and off the field.
“That stuck with us the most, the focus on the off field aspects of recruiting and building a players character which is something we place a high value on. Justin’s background and story is amazing and we can’t wait to get him involved with our 2019 team and our box winter program. His understanding of the game offensively will be a huge asset to the entire club.”
Justin will be taking the reigns officially when practices kick off on Sunday October 25th as the team prepare for its two fall events MVP Rider (November 7th) and Lehigh’s King of the Mountain (November 15th). The team currently features 22 players hailing from 12 different high schools that are eager to learn from their new head coach.

Justin Hawarth Bio information:
Hailing from Long Island and playing for catholic superpower St. Anthony’s HS in South Huntington NY he was an All-Catholic League Midfielder selection his senior year after winning 2 Catholic League Championships with the Friars. Collegiately, Haworth initially signed with UMBC where he was a starting midfielder for the Retrievers. After UMBC, he transferred to Nassau Community College on Long Island, where he received All-America honors as a midfielder for the Lions. After NCC, He accepted a scholarship to Division II power Limestone College, where he garnered several accolades, such as All Conference, All Tournament team, Conference Tournament MVP as well as a 2x All-America selection as a Midfielder and Attackman for the Saints. In 2008, Haworth was drafted 40th overall in the 4th round of the NLL draft to the Minnesota Swarm.
Haworth has also had several coaching jobs over the past 10 years in the area. He has coached several club teams at all age groups from 3rd grade to HS varsity. During his coaching career in NY, he coached several players who’ve gone on to play at the collegiate level. After moving to South Jersey in 2013, He was an assistant at West Deptford HS, where he ran the offense for the Eagles. He also coached with the South Jersey Shamrocks in their field and box programs.
“After speaking with the Black Bear Lacrosse staff, I am incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach again at the HS club level,” Hawarth said. “After meeting with them, I knew instantly this was a program I wanted to be a part of. I think that with their lacrosse philosophy and my coaching style and knowledge, we can bring Black Bear to the next level and I couldn’t be more excited to get started.”
