In what was a busy day for the Cannons, Boston landed former Launch goalie Benny Pugh with the first-overall selection in Wednesday’s Supplemental Draft. Prior to the draft starting, Boston also announced it had acquired All-Star attackman James Pannell from the Blaze in exchange for the 10th-overall selection in the 2018 Collegiate Draft.
Pugh was selected by Florida with the 37th pick in the 2017 Collegiate Draft out of Richmond after being named to the All-Southern Conference Team on multiple occasions. He appeared in one game for the Launch in 2017.
Pannell, 23, was the second-highest scorer on the Blaze last season with 34 points in 13 games. He had 21 goals, 12 assists and 13 groundballs and was selected to the All-Star Game for the first time in his career. He was named the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week in Week 7 when he had a seven-point performance in a 19-18 win over Charlotte.
Atlanta engaged in a second trade with Dallas, sending attackman Randy Staats and midfielder Jesse King to the Rattlers in exchange for picks 24, 32 and 51 in the 2018 Collegiate Draft.
