Monmouth University Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Brian Fisher (Ridley) has announced the team’s captains for the upcoming 2018 season. Garrett Pfeifer, Dylan Schulte (Semeca High-NJ), Bryce Wasserman and Griffin Figel will serve as captains for the Hawks.
Pfeifer, Schulte and Wasserman, all seniors, along with Figel, a junior, are captains for the first time.

Schulte was an All-MAAC Second Team midfielder last season and was second on the Hawks with 37 ground balls, the third most in a single season in Monmouth history. He was third on the team with 15 caused turnovers, and scored 11 goals to go along with seven assists. Schulte scored two game-winning goals, including the decisive goal in the MAAC Championship game against Marist.
“Dylan is a competitor who at all times gives 100 percent on the field and improves the play of all those around him,” Fisher stated. “He has great instincts and such a high lacrosse IQ that he is like having another coach on the field.”
Pfeifer, an All-MAAC First Team defender as a junior, started 17 of Monmouth’s 18 games in 2017. He collected 33 ground balls, which ranked eighth on Monmouth’s single-season list and finished the year with 18 caused turnovers, tied for the third-most in a season in program history. Pfeifer, a MAAC All-Academic Team selection, ranks sixth on Monmouth’s career caused turnovers list entering his senior season.
“Garrett is a vocal and emotional leader who is poised to have another standout year,” head coach Brian Fisher said. “As the veteran on our defense, he has done a great job this fall and really taken the reins helping our younger defenders along.”
Wasserman led Monmouth in goals (29), assists (16) and points (45) en route to earning All-MAAC First Team honors as a junior. A two-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection, Wasserman enters 2018 ranked second in Monmouth history with 98 points and 65 goals. His 33 career assists are the most for a Monmouth student-athlete.
“Bryce is one of our more passionate players and hardest workers on the team,” Fisher added. “His experience and toughness have given him a platform to lead both on and off the field.”
Figel was fourth on the team with 21 points and his nine assists were third on the team. He enters his junior season with 27 career points, good for eighth on Monmouth’s career list. An All-Rookie Team choice in 2016, Figel is one of four returning starters for the Hawks.
“Griff is a well-respected junior who carries himself with confidence,” Fisher said. “He is a team-first guy who works hard, rallies and inspires others and brings a positive workmanship vibe to the field and locker room every day.”
Monmouth looks to defend its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship after capturing its first league title in team history. The Hawks finished 2017 with a 14-4 overall record, highlighted by unbeaten records at home and in conference play. Monmouth opens its 2018 season on Feb. 17 at Princeton at 1 p.m.
