Syracuse adds three – Buttermore, Phaup and Schluter – from Philly in Class of 2021

Head coach John Desko and the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team welcome 19 newcomers – 18 freshmen and one transfer – to the Orange this season. The recruiting class of 2017 feature seven players ranked in Inside Lacrosse’s top-100 and eight players ranked in the top-31 at their respective position by the publication.

“I’m excited to welcome this group to our program,” said head coach John Desko. “As we start practices this week, I’m eager to get them in a Syracuse jersey for the first time and see their progress as we get ready for the season.”

The class features six of the nation’s top-31 incoming midfielders, according to Inside Lacrosse, a trio of players selected to the Under Armour All-America Game and numerous All-Americans.

This is also one of the most geographically expansive in Syracuse lacrosse history, with players hailing from 10 different states and Canadian provinces.

Fans will have a pair of opportunities to see the new Orange in the Carrier Dome this fall. Beginning with the team participating in the International Lacrosse Scrimmages with the Iroquois Nationals and Team Israel on Oct. 1, in the conclusion of the The Creator’s Game, Lacrosse Weekend put on by Deyhontsigwa’ehs and the Haundenosaunee Wooden Stick Festival. The highlight of the fall will be the annual Syracuse Alumni Classic on Oct. 14, where the current varsity squad will play a team comprised of nationally recognized alumni.

Jacob Buttermore – M – Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley

Before SU: Two-time All-American at Garnet Valley High School … Three-time All-Central League honoree and two-time All-Delco selection … Played high school lacrosse under Frank Urso, National Lacrosse Hall of Fame member … Recorded 134 career goals and 61 assists, including a 50-goal season as a senior … Participated in the Under Armour Underclass Games in 2015 and 2016 … Played club lacrosse for the Mesa Fever … Also played football and basketball all four years of high school and was a member of Future Business Leaders of America and the Spanish Club in high school.

Personal: Born April 15, 1999 … Son of Bob and Joni … Has a twin sister Jenna … Enrolled in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.

Jakob Phaup – F/O – Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area

Before SU: Scored 32 goals, contributed 16 assists and won 75-percent of his faceoffs as a senior … Two-time team captain at Sourderton … Three-time All-Suburban League First Team selection … Two-time All-Intelligencer selection … Played club lacrosse for Twist … Hotbed All-Star Team selection … Also wrestled in high school.

Personal: Born Feb. 28, 1999 … Son of Beth … Enrolled in the David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics.

Lucas Quinn – M – Niskayuna, N.Y./ Niskayuna

Before SU: No. 13 overall recruit in the 2017 class according to Inside Lacrosse … No. 4 midfielder in the 2017 class according to Inside Lacrosse … 2017 Under Armour All-American … Two-time US Lacrosse All-American … Scored 342 points in high school, including 199 goals and 143 assists for the 2015 New York State Champions … Two-time team MVP in 2016 and 2017 … Volunteered for All-Star Athletes, a club which brings sports to disabled children, while in high school.

Personal: Born Nov. 17, 1998 … Son of John and Ellen … Has two older brothers, John and Evan … Enrolled in the college of arts and sciences.

Sam Schluter – LSM – Pennington, N.J./The Hun School

Before SU: Standout hockey and lacrosse player at The Hun School for two seasons, also played at Tatnall in 2015 and Upland Country Day in 2014 … Collected 30 ground balls while recording 14 points in his two seasons at The Hun School … Played his club lacrosse with NXT Lacrosse … Helped his team to the MAPL Championship in both 2015 and 2017.

Personal: Born Oct. 17, 1998 … Son of Karen and Peter … Has two other brothers, Ben and Bobby … Uncle Phil played lacrosse at Syracuse from 1986-89 and won two National Championships … Enrolled in the college of arts and sciences.

Brett Barlow – LSM – Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius

Before SU: 2017 First Team All-State Selection … First Team All-CNY honoree … First Team All-CNYCL … Four-year letterwinner at Fayetteville-Manlius High School under head coach Chris Kenneally … Led the Hornets to the 2016 Section III Championship … Scored 11 goals and contributed five assists in his career, to complement his 123 ground balls … Collected 71 ground balls as a senior, while also scoring seven goals and chipping in three assists.

Personal: Born Nov. 25, 1998 … Son of Ashley and Rick Kelley and Steven Barlow … Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Brendan Curry – M – Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall

Before SU: USILA All-American in 2017 … Ranked as the No. 49 overall recruit in the class of 2017 by Inside Lacrosse and is ranked as the No. 12 midfielder … 2017 All-MIAA and All-Metro selection … MVP of the 2017 MIAA Championship Game after leading Calvert Hall to the team title … Scored 60 goals and contributed 53 assists in his career, including a 46-point senior season … Team captain as a senior and earned offensive MVP honors … Member of National Honor Society and president of the FCA.

Personal: Born Sept. 8, 1998 … Son of Todd and Erin … Father was a three-time All-American at Syracuse, including first team selections in 1986 and 1987 … Has three younger sisters, Ellie, Kendall and Carley … Majoring in management at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

Seth DeLisle – F/O – Fulton, N.Y./G Ray Bodley/Onondaga Community College/Nazareth College

at Nazareth: First Team IMLCA All-American and Second Team USILA All-American in 2017 … First Team All-Empire 8 Conference selection in each of his two seasons at Nazareth … Served as the team’s primary faceoff specialist in all 20 games, winning .727 percent of his faceoffs (330-for-454) … Won 60 percent at the X as a sophomore … Collected 312 ground balls in two seasons at Nazareth, also scoring four goals and contributing three assists.

At OCC: Played one season at Onondaga Community College in 2015 before transferring to Nazareth for the following two seasons … Led NJCAA in faceoff win percentage with a .879 win percentage (87-for-99) and picked up 38 ground balls for the 2015 NJCAA Champions.

Nate Garlow – F/O – Syracuse, N.Y./ Marcellus

Before SU: Won 75 percent of his faceoffs in high school, including an 80-percent mark during his senior season with Marcellus … Scored 10 goals and contributed 16 assists for head coach Marc Cizenski … 2017 Honorable Mention All-CNY … Played club lacrosse for Orange Crush … High school football standout, amassing well over 3,000 total yards as a running back and wide receiver in his career … Two-time All-State football player in his three seasons of varsity football … Two-time All-Central New York football player with 2,070 rushing yards and 1,192 yards receiving.

Nate McPeak – G – Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake

Before SU: 2017 Adrenaline All-American … Three-time All-league selection … Two-time Metro Mesa League Player … Second Team All-CIF Metro Mesa San Diego honoree … Three-time team captain who led Eastlake High School to four-straight league championships in net, highlighted by a .680 save percentage while allowing 5.88 goals against as a senior … Allowed just 5.09 goals against over his career … Played club lacrosse for SD United, which claimed the 2017 Adrenaline Challenge Championship … Also played for Nation United, SD Laxdawgs and Team 12 … Worked with Eastlake Church Student Minist-y for five years as a volunteer youth leader … Involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Connor Nelson – A – New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford

Before SU: Totaled over 100 points as a senior and recorded 345 points over his career at New Hartford High School … 2017 All-State honoree … Mohawk Valley Player of the Year and Mohawk Valley All-Star … Three-time All Tri-Valley League Selection … Member of the National Honor Society … Two-time team captain … Also played basketball as a junior and senior.

Personal: Born Aug. 27, 1999 … Son of Jen and Tim … Has one younger sister, Katie … His father Tim is Syracuse’s all-time assists leader and ranks fifth in points despite playing just three seasons at SU. He has the three-highest single-season assist totals in program history … His uncle Tom also played at Syracuse … Majoring in management in the Martin J. Whitman School.

Dami Oladunmoye – M – Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake North

Before SU: Ranked as the No. 31 midfielder in the class of 2017 by Inside Lacrosse … Two-time US Lacrosse High School All-American … Two-time All-Illinois selection and all-conference honoree … Also starred in football at Grayslake North where he was a running back … Participated in the Inside Lacrosse Committed Academy … Was part of leadership council in high school

Jonathan Partamian – M – La Canada, Calif./Loyola High School

Before SU: Ranked as the No. 29 midfielder in the nation by Inside Lacrosse … Two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American … Helped lead Loyola to two California Southern-Section Championships under head coach Seth Cohen … Three-time All-Mission League and three-time First Team All-Area selection … Scored 118 goals and recorded 58 assists in his high school career, including a 40-goal and 58-point season as a senior … Also played club lacrosse with Legends (West), West Coast Starz, LA Heat and Maverik Showtime All-Stars in addition to his high school team.

Bryce Saba – D – Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central

Before SU: Played five years of varsity lacrosse at Wayne Central, where he was a four-time Finger Lakes League First Team selection … USA Today Academic All-American in 2017 … Two-time team captain for Wayne Central … Played club lacrosse for Sweetlax (2013-16) and Showtime (2014-15) … Also was a four-year letterwinner on the soccer team.

Owen Seebold – M – Dallas, Texas/Highland Park
