For two days, Philly’s Elite Invitational is the epicenter of the Philadelphia lacrosse universe.
The brainchild of two-time state champion Springfield-Delco head coach Tom Lemieux and Radnor athletic director and state champion assistant coach Mike Friel, the inaugural Invitational features 18 of the Philadelphia area’s top boys’ high school teams at Radnor High School on Monday and Tuesday this week.
Play begins Monday at 11 a.m. with the championship game being played Tuesday at 4 p.m. at in the football stadium. There are two five-team divisions to go with two four-team pools with games consisting of two 22-minute halves and a five-minute halftime. The divisions are as follows:
Blue Division: Academy of the New Church, Jags Lax, Malvern Prep, Marple Newtown, Spring-Ford.
Gold Division: Wilson Bulldogs, Conestoga, Downingtown East, Emmaus Sting Green, Radnor Raiders.
Red Division: Mountain Lakes, Penncrest, Springfield, Upper Dublin.
White Division: Episcopal Academy, Providence Road, Ridley, Summit.
Participating players are in the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 graduation years.
“We’re really excited to have this strong group of 18 teams in the inaugural Philly’s Elite Invitational,” Lemieux said. “There are state champions, state runners-up, district and league champions and teams that are consistently among the country’s best. Whoever wins this tournament is going to have earned it, because there won’t be any easy games.”
