Four players scored two goals and James Reilly won 11 of 13 faceoffs while Scott MacMillan posted 10 saves as Conestoga defeated Mt. Lebanon, 13-3, today at Cumberland Valley to advance to the first PIAA Class AAA championship.
The District 1 champion and Central League co-champ Pioneers (22-3) will face the Avon Grove-Central Bucks East winner in the title game Saturday at West Chester East at 4 p.m.
Tommy Sopko and Nick Braendel each had two goals and an assist and Henry Berg and Kent Hjelm each scored twice for the Pioneers. Sean Bailey added a goal and three assists as Conestoga broke open a 2-2 game by outscoring Mt. Lebanon (13-10) 7-1 in the middle periods.
Conestoga seeks its first state title since 2012 when it finished off three straight overall PIAA crowns. From 2009 until 2016, the PIAA had one classification.
Class AA
Henderson 20, Mars Area 9
The Warriors (20-3) advanced to their first title game with a big second period.
Henderson led just 5-4 after one period, but took a 9-4 lead into halftime and and then 16-6 after three periods.
The Warrors will shoot for their first PIAA crown Saturday at 2 p.m. at West Chester east when it meets the Springfield-Delco/Lansdale Catholic winner.
