From Press Release

The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team will host its 17th consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game next Saturday, after the top seeded Cavaliers scored a 16-3 win over Gwynedd Mercy in Saturday’s tournament semifinal.

The No. 10 Cavaliers will face number two seed Marywood (9-9) in Saturday’s title game, after the Pacers scored a 15-5 win over number three seed Centenary. Stay tuned to CabriniAthletics.com for game time.

The semifinal win extended the Blue and White’s win streak to nine games and improved the club to 14-3 overall.

The Cavaliers got significant contributions from up and down the line-up today, as eight players marked the scoring column.

Sophomore Timmy Brooks (Haverford School) led the way with six points on three goals and three assists. Sophomore Bill Morgan (Marple Newtown) matched Brooks with three goals, while classmate Jordan Krug (Cherokee-NJ) and junior Zack Gregory (Conestoga) tallied two goals and an assist each.

Senior Evan Downey and freshman Mike Gerzabek (Springfield-Delco) also scored twice, while sophomore Nicholas Waligurski (Berks Catholic) and freshman Tyler Moschella (Garnet Valley) found the back of the net.

Cabrini’s control of today’s action stemmed from a dominance at the faceoff spot, where it won 18 of the game’s 22 draws. Junior Riley Michaels (Pottsgrove) went 17-19 with a career high 11 ground balls.

Michaels helped the Cavaliers build a 37-24 edge in ground balls, as freshman goaltender Matt Nestler added four ground balls to his six saves, while Brooks secured three ground balls.

Nestler saw 45 minutes in the Cabrini cage before sophomore Riley White (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and freshmen Parker Ross saw action in the fourth quarter.

The Cavaliers built an early lead as Brooks found Gregory for the game’s first goal in the opening minute. Thirty-five seconds later, freshman Tyler Kostack (Marple Newtown) hit Brooks to double the lead. Downey tallied both of his goals in a 41 second span late in the period to give Cabrini a 4-0 lead after the first quarter.

The scoring run continued into the second frame, as Gerzabek, Krug and Brooks extended the lead to 7-0 before Gwynedd Mercy got on the board. Kostack and Krug combined for a goal with 67 seconds left in the half, as Cabrini carried an 8-1 lead into the break.

Cabrini never allowed the Griffins to find any consistent rhythm, as it outscored Gwynedd Mercy 4-1 in the second, third and fourth quarters.

Senior goalie Sean Myers recorded a career-high fifteen saves in goal for GMercyU. Derek Alcavage (Gloucester Catholic-NJ), Jordan Dzierzgowski (Washington Township-NJ) and Ryan Simpson (Upper Darby) all scored a goal for the Griffins (6-8).
