Zach Cole had a goal and two assists and won 16 of 20 faceoffs and Matt Ingersoll had four goals and an assist as host Lenape defeated Shawnee, 10-6, Friday in a South Jersey boys’ lacrosse matchup of top teams.
Lenape, coming off a key 9-7 win over St. Augustine Prep, is 7-1.
“It was huge for us to finally to make a statement for who we are and even though we are young we are capable of big things,” said Cole, a 2018 committed to St. Joseph’s.
Lenape bolted to a 3-0 lead and never relinquished the advantage.
Tim Montgomery added two goals and three assists and Matt Lajoie had two goals and an assist.
Miek Shinske had two goals and an assist and Dan Wigley scored twice for Shawnee (5-1) while Chris Lyons had a goal and two assists.
The Indians have won three straight since bowing to Strath Haven, 12-8.
“Since Strath Haven we have focused on finishing our opportunities and valuing our possessions,” said Cole.
Cole has ably replaced standout Conor Gaffney – the 2016 Phillylacrosse South Jersey Player of the Year who is starring at Lehigh University.
“Probably (my success is due to) off season training,” said Cole. “I have been working hard at Philly Faceoff League and training with Conor.”
What are Lenape’s goals?
“A sectional and state championship, but we have to take it one game at a time,” said Cole.
