Delaware came out strong and led wire to wire in Thursday evening’s 9-4 victory over Bryant at Bryn Athyn’s General Field.
The Blue Hens jumped out to an early lead in the first-ever matchup between the two programs thanks to back-to-back goals from senior Jamie Schwartz, which were followed by tallies from senior Kirsten Hale (Great Valley) and freshman Claire D’Antonio (Moorestown).
Schwartz added another goal before the end of the half to register her fifth career hat trick as the Hens led, 7-2, at the break.
The offense wasn’t as fruitful in the second half as the two teams scored just two goals each.
Schwartz finished the game with three goals while Hale posted two total to go along with three ground balls and a draw control.
Sophomore Chantae Simms led all players with three caused turnovers in addition to three ground balls while D’Antonio and senior Mary Abram (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline) each collected two draw controls.
Duke 16, St. Joseph’s 10
Leading by one goal coming out of the halftime break, the Blue Devils outscored the Hawks 9-4 in the second half on Sweeney Field. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-4 while the Blue Devils snap a three-game losing streak to improve to 5-3.
Sophomore midfielder Rebecca Lane recorded a game-high six points on three goals and three assists while senior attacker Nora McCallion (Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) put away her 100th career goal midway through the first half.
Division III
Cabrini 16, Widener 7
The Cavaliers (2-2) scored a win over Widener as junior Sasha Wozniak (Spring-Ford) led with five goals, while sophomore Avery Murphy (Archbishop Carroll) paired three goals and two assists.
Haverford 23, Eastern 9
Allie Gibbons had four goals and an assist and Holly Lausteen added four goals to lead the Fords (4-2).
Anna Charlebois scored four goals for Eastern (1-2).
Men’s
Widener 12, Univ of New England 10
Junior Anthony Paone (Central Bucks South) won 15 faceoffs to help create instant offense and matched a career high by scooping up 11 ground balls as the Pride defeated the University of New England at Bryn Athyn College’s General Nelson Field.
Tyler Schulte (Seneca) had five goals and Shane Taylor (Archbishop Ryan) added three for Widener.
