“Being our fourth season together, we have a veteran group of seniors leading the charge and several guys from all classes emerging as leaders these past few months, which made for an exciting semester,” Fisher said. “With Ty and Eric at the helm we have had strong leadership for the past year and are really looking forward to their senior seasons. Both return as captains for their senior year, have both expanded their roles as leaders and are poised to have a great spring.”
Berger, who enters his second season as a co-captain alongside Keen, has played in every game throughout his career. The midfielder scored 11 goals last year and has 30 for his career and is a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection.
Keen, who was limited to two games in 2016 with an injury, was third on the team in scoring with 11 goals as a sophomore. Keen begins his second year as a team co-captain and is tied for fifth in the Monmouth record book with 19 career goals. Keen is a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree.
Grajewski is the only Monmouth player to start every game in the program’s history, totaling 41 games over three seasons. The defender was named to the 2016 All-MAAC First Team after collecting 15 ground balls and causing nine turnovers last season.
“Andrew was an easy choice as a third captain as he has the respect of his teammates and leads by example through his play,” Fisher added. “He has done a great job this fall complimenting Ty and Eric both on and off the field and adding him as a captain will lend a voice on the defensive side of the field. Furthermore, he has been a consistent presence with our defense the past few seasons and he has really developed as a leader the past few months and we are excited to see him in action this year.”
Monmouth looks to qualify for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament for the third consecutive season in 2017 after finishing third in the regular season standings in 2016. Monmouth finished with a 7-7 overall record in 2016 and returns nine of 10 starters from last year’s squad. The Hawks open their 2017 season on Feb. 11 at Villanova.
