“Our staff is honored to announce these six men as team captains for the 2016-17 season,” Wilkinson said. “The entire senior class has elevated its level of leadership so far this year, and these six were selected by their teammates after emerging as incredible leaders over the last three months. All six of them provide tremendous yet different leadership styles and they all possess the qualities that we want in our players. We are excited to work with them as we prepare to build on the great momentum that we have all worked hard to create here over this senior class’ first three seasons at Marist.”

A 2014 MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, D-middie Murphy has been a staple on Marist’s defensive unit the last three seasons. His 41 ground balls were the most by a Red Fox in 2016. In two postseason games last year he had eight ground balls, a pair of caused turnovers and an assist.

Brier has started every game on defense for the Red Foxes the last two seasons. In 16 contests last year he finished second on the team with 39 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers before earning an All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team selection. He scored his first career goal at NJIT on April 23.

Recor has been an All-MAAC honoree in each of his three years at Marist. He ranked 24th in the country in assists per game (1.73) and shot percentage (.415) and racked up three or more points on 11 separate occasions in 2016. Recor assisted on the game-winning goal in the MAAC semifinal when Marist took down Monmouth, 8-7, inside the final minute. The helper was the 100th of his career, moving him into fourth place on the program’s all-time list. He has notched a point in 28 consecutive games, a streak that puts him 17th in the nation at the start of the 2017 campaign.

Vigh was a 2016 All-MAAC Second Team selection. Playing in every game for the Red Foxes, he netted a career-high four goals on eight shots and tallied six points against Canisius. He caused a turnover when Marist defeated no. 8 Stony Brook, the highest ranked opponent the Red Foxes have ever beaten, in an overtime contest April 12. Vigh’s third career hat trick came in the 2016 MAAC Championship game at Quinnipiac.

Nye was the team’s starting long stick midfielder in 2016, playing a pivotal role in wins over no. 8 Stony Brook and Big 10 foe Michigan. His 38 ground balls was the third highest total on the team. He caused two turnovers in the MAAC opener at Monmouth and had a career game against Canisius one week later, winning 14 faceoffs and collecting five ground balls.

The reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Corrigan played in six overtime games after taking over the starting goalie position in 2016. He ranked in the top 10 in the nation in three statistical categories last season, as he was second in save percentage (.588), seventh in saves per game (11.75), and eighth in goals against average (8.14). Corrigan finished with a 9-7 overall record that included a pair of victories in overtime. He was also a MAAC All-Academic Team honoree for the second straight year.

Marist will begin the 2017 regular season with a four-game road trip that starts Feb. 11 at Colgate. Opening faceoff is slated for 1 p.m. The Red Foxes’ home opener will be 1 p.m. March 4 when they host the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association Champion Drexel Dragons.
