Chester County defeated Lehigh Valley to claim the Youth Division (5th/6th graders) at the Keystone State Games last weekend at State College.
The boys started off strong by defeating Montgomery County before dropping back-to- back one-goal decisions to York County and Lehigh Valley before ending the first day with a decisive victory over Berks County. Going into the second day the boys started to gel.
Chester County defeated Bucks County in the semifinal.
Led by the goal scoring of Billy Adams, Owen Murray, Teddy Malone, Matt Riley, Michael Ostertag, Sloan Zebrowski, Justin Sanelli, Braeden Lange, and Tucker Flynn as well as the gritty playmaking and strong transition play of Colby Riddell, Henry Tarr, and Danny Carnuccio the offense looked strong.
Defensively, the boys excelled on both days, led by the long stick play of Cooper Ash, JD Shimer, Egan Butala, and Collin Measel, as well as Tarr and Carnuccio.
Backing up those defenders was the goalie tandem of Jack McAnally and Ben Tompkins. Both ball stoppers were stellar throughout the tournament allowing only 3.6 goals per game to lead the tournament. Not only were they both strong in the cage but Tompkins excelled in the clearing game while McAnally added a goal as a reserve attackman.
The team was coached by Chris Flynn of RoughRiders Lacrosse Club and Scott Lange and Paul Butala of Freedom Lacrosse. The team was also cheered on by mascot Kendall Lange.
