The Dukes Lacrosse Club 2021 Young Guns defeated Long Island Express Black, 6-2, today to claim its divisional title (2021 Brown) at the Lahigh Lacrosse King of the Mountain at the Goodman Campus.
Dukes beat BBL Elite (Building Blocks) 7-5, Edge (Canada) 7-1 and Long Island Express 8-7 to go 3-0 in pool play. Dukes toppled Blaze 5-2 in the semifinals.
Co-coach Rob Forster (who shared the duties with Upper Dublin coach Dave Sowers) noted key players for Dukes:
Midfield- Matt Riley (Leading Scorer), Billy Adams, Liam Labarge
Face-Off- Jayden Santangelo and Matt Riley
Attack- Andrew Sowers (led the team in assists playmaker from X) and Clayton Hollinger, while Brett Rama led by finishing in tight.
Defense- Jake Rossman, Dylan Fesmire, Henry Tarr and Ryan Ngo
Goalie: Nate Yi
Players of the tournament: Yi and Riley
“We learned a lot about this group this weekend,” said Forster, who coaches Academy of the New Church. “They are a great group of competitors that want to be a great team. With only two practices as a team, this group came together and fought through some adversity to earn this championship.
“They have a lot to learn as a team and individually as lacrosse players, but they have proven to be a very coachable group that wants to succeed. Myself and Coach Dave Sowers are extremely excited to see what this team can accomplish.”
