.@LafayetteMLAX adds 13 newcomers for Class of 2020

Lafayette head men’s lacrosse coach Jim Rogalski announced the additions of 13 student-athletes to the Class of 2020 on Monday morning. The group hails from five different states, including five from New Jersey and two each from New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and California.lafayette-logo

“We’re excited to bring another excellent class to the program,” Rogalski said. “I’d like to thank my staff for their diligence in helping to put a class together that will allow our program to take another step forward this season. We can’t wait to get to work.”

Five midfielders, four defenders, three attacker and a goalie round out this year’s class. More information on each of the rookies is available below.

Chris Adamo (5-9, 165 | Defense | St. Anthony’s | Bohemia, N.Y.): Three-year starter on the the varsity lacrosse team…two-time member of the Under Armour All-American Underclass Lacrosse Team for Long Island…named the CHSAA co-LSM of the Year as a senior…selected to the CHSAA All-Catholic League Team as a senior…recipient of the John Schroeder Memorial Lacrosse award for academic and athletic excellence…earned the St. Bonaventure Award for academic excellence all four years while finishing as the 72nd-ranked student in his class of 600…member of the National Honor Society, St. Anthony’s Leadership Team and the Friar Faithful Leadership Team…earned honor roll all four years.

John Becker (5-11, 173 | Midfield | Mountain Lakes | Mountain Lakes, N.J.): Three-year letterwinner in lacrosse…part of a team that was crowned Group 1 North Sectional Champions in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and Group 1 State Champions in 2014 and 2016…named First-Team All-State and Second-Team All-Conference in 2015 and was the Top Ground Ball Man in 2014 and 2015…played three years of football, winning Group 2 State Championships in 2014 and 2015…participated in two years of varsity wrestling…earned honor roll all four years.

Andrew Chase (5-10, 175 | Midfield | Summit | Summit, N.J.): Three-year varsity player…earned First-Team Star Ledger/NJ.com All-Junior, Second-Team All-Union County and Third-Team All-Group 2 honors in 2015…named a 2016 US Lacrosse All-American…received Team MVP honors, along with being selected as First-Team All-State, First-Team All-Fitch Pitt, First-Team All-County and a Gill Gibbs New Jersey All Star…won the Warren Wheeler Award for community service his senior year.

Adam Close (5-9, 170 | Midfield | Wilson | Wyomissing, Pa.): Named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2016…was a four-year lacrosse letterwinner…member of Berks County championship teams all four years…was a First-Team All-Berks selection in 2015 and 2016 and a First-Team All-Division selection in 2014…served as the team captain in his senior season…set the single-season Berks County record for points (147) and goals (103) in 2016, good enough for tops in PA District 3 and second and third for goals and points, respectively, in the state…was a three-year letterwinner in football…selected as an All-County DB/WR in 2016…member of the National Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Jason Corcoran (6-1, 180 | Defense | Phillips Exeter Academy | Farmington, Conn.): Two-time Defensive Player of the Year…three-time selection as All-New England Prep School League…served as team captain during his senior year…graduated with honors.

Zane Crandall (6-0, 185 | Midfield | Mira Costa | Los Angeles, Calif.): Two-time US Lacrosse All-American…served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons…attended Nike’s The Ride and earned the top SPARQ score at Jake Reed Nike BlueChip…earned Team MCP as a senior, Offensive MVP as a junior and team Rookie of the Year as a freshman… was a three-time All-League selection and a two-time High Rollers All Star…selected to the Greater LA South All-Area First Team…was a four-time scholar athlete and earned honor roll all four years…graduated Magna Cum Laude…winner of the Presidential Award for 100 hours of community service.

Tyler Furlong (5-7, 155 | Midfield | Watchung Hills | Warren, N.J.): Four-year player in varsity lacrosse…served as team captain in his senior year…earned All-Skyland Conference honors and was the winner of the Eric Sopracasa award…earned honor roll all four years.

Robbie Garavente (6-0, 180 | Attack | Rumson Fair Haven | Fair Haven, N.J.): Was a First-Team All-Shore Conference selections his junior and senior seasons…named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2015 and 2016 and was an All-State selection his junior year…selected as the Shore Conference Player of the Year in 2016…earned honor roll all eight semesters…received a Presidential Gold Award for maintaining above a 4.0 grade-point average for all four years.

Wes Moshier (5-11, 190 | Goalie | Millburn | Short Hills, N.J.): Three-year starter and four-year letterwinner in lacrosse…was the Team MVP in his senior year and the Defensive MVP in his junior year…selected twice as First-Team All-Division and twice as All-Conference…was a Group 3 All-State honoree…recorded a .730 save percentage for his career…was a three-year starter in football, named First-Team All-Conference twice…served as the Vice President of the Young Republicans Club, won Senior Project of the Year and was a three-time Artist of the Month…graduated with a 3.4 grade-point average at the top-ranked high school in New Jersey.

Seth Obadia (5-11, 175 | Attack | Paul D Schreiber | Port Washington, N.Y.): Scored over 100 goals in his career and was a two-time All-Nassau County selection…earned Honorable Mention All-American honors as a senior…was an Academic All-County selection, scoring 50 goals and tallying seven assists as a captain in his senior season…selected as a King of the Hill All Star…winner of the Paul D Schreiber Athletic Achievement Award and the Excellence in Business Law Award…member of the principal’s honor roll all four years.

Michael Sands (6-2, 209 | Attack | Greenwich | Greenwich, Conn.): Served as team captain his senior year, posting 51 goals and 38 assists as a First-Team All-FCIAC and Second-Team All-State honoree…was a Clark House Scholar in his junior year, recording 41 goals and 25 assists as an All-FCIAC Second-Team selection.

Shayne Sharp (6-1, 190 | Defense | Palos Verdes | Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.): Three-year varsity starter in lacrosse…served as team captain during his senior season and was named the Bay League Defensive MVP…was an Adrenaline All-American, a two-time LA City Champion, a two-time US Lacrosse All-American and a three-time First-Team All-Bay League selection…was selected as his school’s top defensemen in 2015, 2015 and 2016…member of the Under Armour Underclass All-American West Team in 2015…earned the Student-Athlete Award and kept a 4.5 grade-point average…four-year member of PVIT (Palos Verdes Institute of Technology).

Andrew Westby (5-11, 175 | Defense | The Haverford School | Villanova, Pa.): Three-year varsity player in lacrosse…contributed to an undefeated season in 2015…named First-Team All-Inter-AC…selected to the All-Tournament Team at the IL Invitational in 2015…held higher than a 3.0 grade-point average throughout his time at Haverford…winner of the 2015 Peter Chamberlain Award.
