The Fairfield University men’s lacrosse team will welcome 16 newcomers to campus next week as preparations begin for the upcoming 2017 season. The Stags are coming off of a CAA regular season championship – their third consecutive regular season crown – and a trip to the CAA Championship Game.
“This class is strong academically, possesses strong character and is as talented as any class we’ve brought to campus,” said Head Coach Andy Copelan. “We look forward to working with these young men to help achieve all of their goals both individually and collectively. This group is deep, athletic, well-balanced and has a real chance to be a special class.”
Alex Wagner was a four-time All-League performer for Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, where he wrapped up his career as the sixth-leading scorer in state history. Wagner set a school and league record with 228 goals and handed out 92 career assists for the Eagles to help guide the club to three consecutive state tournaments. He will begin studying at the Dolan School of Business in the fall. Wagner was a teammate of fellow Stag Sam Gindhart at Bishop Shanahan.
Malvern (Pennsylvania) Prep product Zach White comes to Fairfield after four seasons as an attackman for the Friars, where he was a part of an undefeated Inter-Ac Championship campaign in 2014 that saw the squad rise to a No. 2 national ranking from Inside Lacrosse. A consistent honors student, White will major in Finance at the Dolan School of Business. He was a high school teammate of fellow Stag Ryan Antell.
The lone incoming goalkeeper from the Class of 2020 is Sean McKee, a two-time US Lacrosse All-America honoree from William Penn Charter in Philadelphia. He was also a two-time First Team All-State, two-time All-Phillylacrosse.com and three-time First Team All-Inter-Ac selection as a four-year varsity starter in the cage for the Quakers. McKee plans to major in Finance at the Dolan School of Business. He was a teammate of fellow Stag Drew Murray at William Penn Charter.
Bill McMenamin was a faceoff specialist at New Jersey’s St. Augustine Prep. He ranks second in program history with 368 faceoff wins in his scholastic career, trailing only his new Stags’ teammate Will Fox. McMenamin was an NJILCA Second Team All-State selection along with First Team All-South Jersey nods from both the Courier Post and Philadelphia Inquirer. The National Honor Society student will join the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield.
A midfielder from Dallas, Adam Aronowitz was a THSLL All-State and All-District performer for the Episcopal School of Dallas. He helped lead the Eagles to a 2014 State Championship – the second of back-to-back trips to the championship game – and three Southwest Preparatory Conference titles to highlight the club’s 54 wins with Aronowitz in the midfield. Also a three-time President’s Service Award recipient at ESD, he will study at Fairfield’s Charles F. Dolan School of Business.
Dylan Beckwith comes to Fairfield from Long Island’s Wantagh High School, where he was a four-year starter. He racked up 243 career points for the Warriors, splitting time between the midfield and on the attack. Beckwith earned All-County honors in three straight campaigns, adding Honorable Mention All-America nods as a junior and senior. He was an All-County performer as a senior for the Wantagh football team. Beckwith will pursue a degree in Sports Management at Fairfield.
A midfielder who led Shaker Heights (Ohio) High School to its first conference championship in over 15 seasons, Clay Brady was a standout performer for the Raiders. As team captain and MVP, he netted 41 goals with 26 assists and 70 ground balls as a senior en route to First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State honors. A scholar-athlete and honor roll student in every semester of his high school career, Brady will study Finance at the Dolan School of Business.
A product of Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Brian Cosgrove will join Fairfield’s defensive unit beginning this spring. A two-time US Lacrosse All-America performer to go along with All-Midwest, All-State and All-Catholic nods, Cosgrove helped lead Brother Rice to three consecutive state championships. The Warriors were also recognized by Lacrosse Magazine as the No. 2 team in the Midwest at the close of the 2016 season, also receiving consideration for the national top 25. An Honors student, Cosgrove will enroll in the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield.
The all-time leading scorer in Pennsylvania high school history, Matt Fedorjaka racked up 303 goals and 181 assists at Lewisburg Area High School. He was an all-conference honoree in each of his four seasons, adding US Lacrosse All-America laurels in his senior campaign. Fedorjaka, who led his team to three district championships, was also a 1,000-point scorer on the basketball court and the single-season and career receptions leader on the gridiron for the Dragons. Fedorjaka was a member of the National Honor Society and a Distinguished Honor Roll student at Lewisburg and will enter Fairfield’s Dolan School of Business. He is the son of Fairfield women’s basketball alumna Kathy (Gailor) Fedorjaka ’90 and Bucknell head men’s lacrosse coach Frank Fedorjaka.
Tommy Fleming comes to Fairfield from St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco. He was a three-year letterwinner and a two-time All-WCAL selection, scoring 63 goals with 58 assists and 69 ground balls in his career. Fleming helped lead the Wildcats to their first-ever top 10 national ranking. He was a key attackman for three consecutive WCAL Championship teams. Fleming, who will study at the Dolan School of Business, is the younger brother of fellow Stag Dave Fleming.
Travis Ford was tabbed by Inside Lacrosse as one of its Top 50 Young Guns entering his senior season, and he delivered for Webster Thomas High School with 77 goals and 33 assists. The First Team All-Section and All-County midfielder totaled 161 goals and 76 assists in his four year career with the Titans, leading the club to 2016 NYS Section V Class B and NYS Western Region Championships and advancing to the state championship semifinals. A magna cum laude graduate of Webster Thomas and a member of the German Honor Society, he will enter the Dolan School of Business in the fall.
Goldens Bridge, N.Y. product Hunter Keech joins the Stags after a scholastic career in the midfield at John Jay High School. He scored 72 goals with 24 assists in his junior and senior campaigns, earning All-Section honors in both campaigns as the team went a combined 26-10. Keech was also a two-time All-Section football player and nabbed All-State laurels on the gridiron as a senior. He will study at Fairfield in the Dolan School of Business.
Tyler Lichter patrolled the midfield for the Celtics of Dublin Jerome High School in Dublin, Ohio. He scored 44 goals with 11 assists in his only season at Dublin Jerome after playing previously at Olentangy Orange High School. A Second Team All-Midwest pick by the MSCLA, he will enroll in the Dolan School of Business.
A defenseman from Clarksville, Maryland, Andrew Murrow played high school lacrosse at Boys’ Latin in Baltimore. He was a member of the 2014 squad, alongside fellow Stag Riley Peters, that went 18-0 en route to the MIAA Championship and was tabbed as National Champions by Inside Lacrosse. A team captain for the Lakers in lacrosse and football, Murrow was an All-MIAA performer on the gridiron in his senior season. The National Honor Society member and Williams Scholar will study at Fairfield’s Dolan School of Business.
A two-time US Lacrosse All-America defenseman, Cameron Richard was a four-year starter for Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New Hampshire. Richard helped guide the Astros to a state championship in 2015 and a second consecutive trip to the state finals as co-captain of the squad in 2016. He was the New Hampshire Defenseman of the Year in 2016 and a two-time First Team All-State honoree. The honor roll student will enroll in the Dolan School of Business.
In addition to the Class of 2020, Fairfield Lacrosse welcomes graduate student Tim Mulrenan to the team after two seasons at Villanova, including the Wildcats’ 2013 Big East Regular Season Championship campaign. He totaled 23 goals – fueled by 12 man-up tallies – and seven assists for Villanova in 2013 and 2014. Mulrenan, who racked up a program-record 152 career points in his high school career at Seton Hall Prep, will suit up this year for his final season of eligibility.
