The HEADstrong Quakers Lacrosse Club is proud to announce the naming of former Malvern Prep assistant coach Todd MacFarlane as Program Director. MacFarlane will play a pivotal role in leading the newly formed club program.
In addition to MacFarlane, the HEADstrong Quakers Lacrosse Club is proud to introduce the following members to the inaugural coaching staff, with more coaching additions scheduled to be announced over the next few weeks:
Mike Murphy – University of Pennsylvania Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach
Pat Myers – University of Pennsylvania Associate Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach, Team USA U-19 Assistant Coach
Casey Ideka – University of Pennsylvania Men’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach
Mike Bartomioli – University of Pennsylvania Men’s Lacrosse Director of Operations
Brendan Dawson – Widener University Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach

The aim of the HEADstrong Quakers Lacrosse Club is to elevate the club lacrosse experience by providing direct access to the highest caliber of instruction, leadership and facilities. Unlike existing lacrosse programs the HEADstrong Quakers Lacrosse Club will offer an annual membership with cost ranging from $1,200-$1,700, pending the level.
In order to participate, players must reside within a 50-mile radius of the University of Pennsylvania. The annual membership will be inclusive of both the fall and summer schedules. In an effort to promote value and flexibility tournament play will be offered in an “al la carte” fashion, in which players would pay additionally for participation.
Instruction and training is at the heart of the concept with scheduled practices leading up to (1-2) tournaments this upcoming fall. There are also plans to integrate scrimmages and other non-tournament competition into the schedule. Embracing and encouraging multisport athletes, the HEADstrong Quakers will provide optional winter training sessions, which can be added in a similar “al la carte” fashion.
The summer season will include a training camp at the University of Pennsylvania scheduled in June alongside of practices leading up to (3) “al la carte” tournaments. Fees will be inclusive of uniforms, coaching fees, charitable contribution and all instruction related fees. Please note that all tournament fees and equipment will be additional.
This fall, the HEADstrong Quakers will host (2) scheduled evaluations (Details are outlined below). A onetime $50 online registration fee or $60 walk-up registration fee will apply and players are encouraged to participate in both evaluations so that the coaching staff can proper assess the level of prospective talent.

The hope is to submerse players in the most realistic experience providing them with the mentorship and resources needed to find success. One of the most important aspects of the newly developed concept is in the overall education that players will receive from top DI men’s lacrosse coaches. The annual membership will provide athletes with fall and summer competition paired with winter training sessions, educational seminars as well as opportunities for community service and giving back.
Macfarlane who spent the past two seasons supporting the University of Maryland Men’s Lacrosse Team as Director of Lacrosse Operations is excited about returning to the Greater Philadelphia Region and the HEADstrong Quakers Lacrosse Club program.
“It is with great pride that I humbly accept the position of Program Director for the HEADstrong Quakers Lacrosse Club,” said MacFarlane. “The cause is close to my heart and we look forward to carrying and building on the legacy of founder Nicholas Colleluori. Over the past 10 years, I have had the privilege of serving in multiple roles in the game and have witnessed the relentless commitment of the Colleluori family and the impact that HEADstrong has had on behalf of families affected by cancer.
“We want to match their excellence on the playing field by providing our players and their families with the most authentic and beneficial club lacrosse experience. We hope that HEADstrong Quakers will offer a new perspective for students-athletes, will serve as a benchmark in the club lacrosse sector and provide a unique outlet for some of the most respected college coaches to share their knowledge with student-athletes.”
Prior to his time at College Park, MacFarlane served in roles at Malvern Preparatory School, The Phelps School, La Jolla Lacrosse Foundation and Top Notch Training. He also was a club coach with several Philly programs. MacFarlane is a graduate of Chapman University and also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1994-1998. He also played lacrosse professionally for the Anaheim Storm.
“It is with great pride that we introduce Todd MacFarlane as our Director of the HEADstrong Quakers Lacrosse Club. For more than a decade Todd has served in multiple roles supporting some of the finest athletic institutions in the country. Pulling from a diverse professional and personal background ranging from playing professional lacrosse to military service to serving as a coach, director and administrator we strongly believe that Todd’s abilities will allow this program to shine. He will be a great resource to lacrosse families of the Greater Philadelphia Region and has a strong reputation built on integrity, consistency and commitment. We are very proud to call him a member of the HEADstrong family.” – Michael Colleluori, VP of HEADstrong Foundation & Nick’s Brother
