Mesa Lacrosse is excited to announce the addition of Todd Hodgson to its coaching staff. Hodgson brings over 15 years of coaching experience, at both the high school and collegiate levels.
“I am excited to be working with Mesa, which has continually been one of the top club teams in the nation for the past decade,” said Hodgson, who will coach with the 2020 team. “I believe in its vision of developing the player while simultaneously embracing a team-first philosophy. I look forward to offering my experience to further the development of these young men.”
Most recently, Hodgson coached at nationally ranked Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana, working as the defensive coordinator. The Culver Eagles’ culminated their 2016 season by winning the 2016 Inter-Ac Challenge Championship.
Prior to his tenure at Culver, Hodgson served as the head men’s lacrosse coach at Lycoming College. At Lycoming, Hodgson mentored two league-leading scorers, a two-time conference player of the year, a MAC Scholar Athlete, a USILA All-American, a North/South Game selection, a Scholar All-American, and eight all-conference selections. Along the way, Hodgson mentored the league’s Player of the Year, Steven Romano, who finished second in the nation in Lax.com’s Clutch rating, along with three other all-conference performers.
“We are excited to have someone with Todd’s experience with game of lacrosse at all levels,” said Mesa co-director John Nostrant. “He will be a valuable resource on the field and his connections with the college coaches will be an invaluable asset in the ever changing landscape of the college recruiting process.”
Before his time at Lycoming College, Hodgson served as the head men’s lacrosse coach at Manhattanville College. In 2008, Hodgson led the Valiants to an 8-8 record, the most wins by a first-year coach in program history. Moreover, the team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Metro/South Championship, marking the program’s second postseason appearance since 1992.
Hodgson came to the Valiants after spending 2007 as the defensive and recruiting coordinator at the University of Scranton. With Hodgson’s guidance, the Royals posted their most wins in five years, doubling their win total from 2006 and dropping their goals against average from 11.8 to 9.1 while advancing to the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament.
Prior to his time at Scranton, Hodgson spent two seasons as the recruiting coordinator at Williams College in the powerhouse New England Small College Athletic Conference. With the Ephs, Hodgson oversaw the offensive unit, boosting the team’s goals per game average from 6.7 in 2004 to 10.1 in 2006, a year that was highlighted by a regular season win over the eventual NCAA Division III semi-finalist Wesleyan.
On the field, Hodgson shined at Ramapo High School in the mid-1990s and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Gill-Gibbs Senior All-Star Game in 1996. A native of Wyckoff, New Jersey, Hodgson went on to star for four seasons at Drew University, leading the Rangers to a 42-20 record and three consecutive Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships.
Hodgson has previously served on the NCAA Rules Committee, the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee, and as the Men’s Lacrosse Advisory Chair for the Middle Atlantic Conference. He was also a voter in the USILA Coaches’ Poll.
Hodgson earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from Drew University in 2000 and a master’s degree in sports business management from Manhattanville College in 2010.
