Great Valley’s Tony Verna has stepped down after 10 seasons as head coach to spend more time with his family.

Verna posted a record of 126-74 and guided the Patriots to the PIAA tournament in 2012 and 2013. His Patriots also shared the Ches-Mont League title in 2013 and in 2007 he was named the Pennsylvania Coach of the Year by the EPSLA after an 18-5 season.
“I’ve decided to step down as Head Coach at Great Valley to spend more time with my daughter, whose 15 months old now,” said Verna. “I started to realize that I was missing a lot of her ‘firsts’ and that didn’t sit well with me, so I made the decision to resign.
“It’s been an amazing run here over the past 10 years. I’ve had some really good teams and we’ve won some really big games. I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many awesome kids over the years. I’ll miss being on the sideline with them, but at the end of the day, nothing is more important than family.”
