Princeton seventh-year head coach Chris Bates has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of an incident during his team’s 19-8 Ivy league loss to Brown.
Princeton’s sports information office provided this statement from officials on the matter:

“Chris Bates, the head men’s lacrosse coach at Princeton University, has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of an incident in this past Saturday’s game against Brown. The University is taking this matter seriously and will be conducting a prompt and thorough review.
“Offensive coordinator Matt Madalon will lead the team during this process.”
No other information was given by Princeton.
Inside Lacrosse reported that in the incident Bates appeared to put his right shoulder and collided with Brown player John Yozzo-Scaperrotta as he came off the field following a penalty with Brown leading, 7-6. Bates was several steps on the field at the time of the collision.
Brown then outscored Princeton, 12-2, the rest of the way.
The game was broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network and WatchESPN, Inside Lacrosse reporter. Video of the incident was heavily circulated through the lacrosse community after the game, according to Inside Lacrosse.
The Tigers are struggling through a 2-6 season, 0-3 in the Ivy League.
